Before the Vietnam War, American boys were drafted and went to war to become men, to serve their country, and to fight for individual freedom. By 1965, their views had changed to despise the military draft because they perceived it as a way of taking individual freedoms away to go and fight an unnecessary war. By burning their draft cards, moving to Canada, and getting legal deferments, these young men were able to dodge the draft for their beliefs but some faced serious consequences.
